SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos II Theos, 261-246 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.00 g, 12 h), Lysimacheia, after 253. Diademed head of Antiochos II to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; in exergue, head of a lion to right between uncertain monogram on the left and ΘE on the right. CSE 659 = SC 483.3 and pl. 22 (this coin). Very rare. A beautiful coin with a remarkably fine portrait. Tiny flan fault on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

This issue was struck in Lysimacheia, the former capital of Lysimachos († 281 BC), which appears to have been Antiochos' major military base during his Thracian campaign sometime after 253 BC.
