ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Mahdi, AH 158-169 / AD 775-785. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 3.86 g, 11 h), Eastern Sistan series, citing Khalid, Sistan, circa AH 150/160s = AD 770s. Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, Khosrau in blundered Pahlawi; in outer margin, 'Khalid' in Kufic, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah') and 'Rabbi' ('my Lord') in Kufic. Rev. Sasanian fire altar set on three steps, flanked by two attending priests (mabedh) standing facing; to left, blundered date; to right, blundered mint. Album 84. Walker, Arab-Sassanian, -.
