A curious contemporary imitation

Diocletian, 284-305. Follis (Bronze, 27 mm, 12.00 g, 11 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Ticinum, after 296. IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG Laureate and draped bust of Diocletian to right. Rev. GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI / ✱ / PT The Genius of the Roman people, nude but for chlamys, standing front, head to left, wearing kalathos and holding patera in his right hand and cornucopiae in his left. Cf. RIC 31a (for prototype). The obverse struck somewhat off center and with light marks, otherwise, good very fine.
