LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.52 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with a griffin; on cheek, countermark: thunderbolt within oval incuse. Rev. ΥEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right. HN Italy 1283. Williams 251. Nicely toned and with an interesting and unusual countermark. The reverse struck slightly off center and with a minor die break, otherwise, good very fine.
