Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 19 mm, 3.88 g, 11 h), a contemporary plated imitation from an irregular mint, L. Mussidius Longus, moneyer, after 42. Laureate head of Julius Caesar to right. Rev. L•M[VSSIDIVS•LON]GVS Rudder, cornucopiae set upon globe, winged caduceus, and pileus. Cf. Babelon (Julia) 58 and (Mussidia) 8, Crawford 494/39a, RBW 1742 and Sydenham 1096a (for prototype). Struck on a broad flan. Breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.
