Lot 222
PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (Physcon), as King in Kyrene, 163-145 BC. Drachm (Bronze, 46 mm, 70.68 g, 12 h), Kyrene. Diademed head of Zeus Ammon to right, with ram's horn in his hair and over the diadem. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ [ΠTOΛEMA]IOY EYEPΓETOY Filleted cornucopiae; in field to right, Φ. Asolati 83 = Buttrey, Cyrene, p. 50, 75. SNG Copenhagen -. Svoronos -. Weiser -. Extremely rare and of great interest. Very fine.

This coin differs from the normal output of the mint in Kyrene under Ptolemy VIII in that it shows a single instead of a double cornucopiae, and that it has the Φ control in the right field rather than in the left. It is an extremely rare issue, known to C. Lorber in now just three examples
