CELTIC, Britain. Durotriges. Uninscribed, circa 65 BC-AD 45. Stater (Electrum, 19 mm, 5.68 g, 4 h), 'Durotrigan E, Abstract (Cranborne Chase)' type. Devolved and disjointed laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Devolved and disjointed horse to left with numerous pellets above and a pellet below. SCBC 365 var. (in silver). Van Arsdell 1235-1. Beautifully toned. Extremely fine.

A large majority of the late Durotriges staters were struck in plain silver, but this somewhat earlier example still retains some of the initial gold content.
