KINGS OF BOSPORUS. Sauromates II, with Commodus, circa 174/5-210/1. Stater (Electrum, 19 mm, 7.62 g, 1 h), BE 484 = 187/8. BACIΛЄωC CAYPOMATOY Diademed and draped bust of Sauromates II to right. Rev. ΔΠY Laureate and draped bust of Commodus to right; before, rosette. MacDonald 495/2. Some metal problems, otherwise, good very fine.


From a European collection, formed before 2005.


This coin comes in a lovely original late 19th or early 20th century collector's box, handcrafted in copper and with an image of a reverse of a stater of Hadrian dated to BE 424 = 127/8 AD stamped on the lid.
