Lot 789
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 19 mm, 4.79 g, 1 h), imitating Septimius Severus, 193-211. [...]ND VOKNOO Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus to left. Rev. OINOOONIO Liberalitas standing front, head to left, holding counting-board (?) in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. Cf. Calicó 2478-2480 (for prototype). Holed and with light marks, otherwise, fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

An interesting minor detail about this coin is that the Barbarian artist cut the letter N retrograde on the obverse, whereas it is facing in the right direction on the reverse. Clearly this does not make any difference, however, as the legend is totally blundered and was certainly cut by an illiterate artist.
