These very rare and highly sought-after pieces are known for most of the German Empire’s gold issues (see, for example, Leu Web Auction 43, 27 June - 1 July 2026, 4940, or Peus 427, 4 November 2020, 2239). They were struck experimentally from the patrixes, which were subsequently used to produce the matrixes from which the regular gold coinage were made.
