PHILISTIA. Azotos (Ashdod). Circa 420-350 BCE. Mʿh = Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.68 g, 1 h). Bearded male head to right, hair gathered at the back and with a horn- or animal-ear-like projection on the forehead. Rev. Bovine walking right, head lowered and raising right foreleg, an owl concealed within its body; above, 𐡀𐡔 (ʾŠ in Aramaic); all within square guilloche-pattern border within incuse square. Beautifully struck and very well centered on a full flan, and with lovely old collection toning. Very light roughness and with a minor die break on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
