Pellet in the center. Album 1402. An extremely rare Ṣaffārid dirham from the rarely attested mint of ʿUmān. Areas of weakness and some edge chips, otherwise, very fine.

This extremely rare and historically significant issue of ʿAmr ibn al-Layth, minted in ʿUmān, represents an important numismatic and historical artifact. While Ṣaffārid coins from this mint are known, the presently recorded examples appear to begin only around AH 291. The present dirham, dated AH 283, therefore precedes the previously known series by several years and may represent the earliest attested Ṣaffārid issue from this mint.

Coins from peripheral mints of the Ṣaffārid state are rare, and the combination of mint, ruler, and early date makes this piece particularly significant for the study of Ṣaffārid expansion and influence in the region.
