ARCHID.AUST•DUX - BURG.CO.TYR•1780 X Crowned and nimbate double eagle with coat of arms on its chest. Hafner 30c var. (with dot after 'DUX' in reverse legend). A rare variety. Slightly cleaned, tiny marks and scratches, otherwise, good very fine.


In his standard reference work (Maria Theresien Taler 1780, Lexikon, Vienna 1980), Walter Hafner was exceptionally precise and thorough in order to properly document the complex series of restrikes of the 1780 Thaler. Accordingly, varieties such as the piece offered here that are not recorded by Hafner are genuinely rare.
