Jugate busts of Bahram II and his queen to right; Bahram II wearing a winged crown with a great korymbos on top; long beard tied in the middle and thick tufts of curly hair at the back; two ribbons rising from behind head; the queen wearing a headdress with boar’s head; facing a small bust to left, wearing a headdress with boar’s head, and presenting a diadem to the king; along the dotted rim running anticlockwise from 11 h to 1 h, traces of ‘mzdysn bgy wrhrʾn MRKAn MRKA’ = ‘mazdēsn bay Wahrām šāhān šāh’ (‘The Mazda-worshipping Lord, Bahram, King of Kings’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar flanked by Bahram on the left and the queen on the right, holding a ring; to right and left, traces of ‘NWRA ZY – wrhr’n’ = ‘ādur ī Wahrām’ (‘Fire of Bahram’ in Pahlavi); the symbol of ‘frawahr’, the guardian spirit of kingship and the emblem of the royal treasury, in the upper field to the left of the flames. Göbl, type XI/3. SNS II, type VIIb/5a. Very rare. Some corrosion and die rust, and with a ragged edge, otherwise, very fine.
