Umayyad Caliphate. Temp. Hisham ibn 'Abd al-Malik, AH 105-125 / AD 724-743. Dinar (Gold, 20 mm, 4.28 g, 6 h), AH 107 = AD 725/6. ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘Allāh aḥad Allāh / al-ṣamad lam yalid / wa lam yūlad’ (‘Allah is One, Allah is Absolute, He begets not, nor is He begotten’ in Arabic; Qurʾān 112: 1-3); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār sana sabʿ wa miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dinar was struck in the year 107’ in Arabic). Album 136. Extremely rare. A beautifully preserved example of this key rarity in the Umayyad gold series. Some doubling, otherwise, good extremely fine.
